Hymenotomy is a procedure involving the removal of hymen. It is performed for medical reasons – the hymen is very hard from birth, hindering sexual initiation and not subject to interruption or at the patient’s request (for personal reasons, i.e. fear of pain and bleeding).
How to prepare for surgery?
The procedure is preceded by a consultation visit, as well as the following tests (also available in our Clinic):
- blood group
- urine general test
- coagulogram – APTT, INR, PT
- ECG after 40
- HBS antigen
- sugar level
Two weeks before the scheduled date of surgery , you must not take aspirin or its derivatives (e.g. Acard), Vitamin E, and antitussive and anti-influenza drugs. These drugs adversely affect the prolongation of bleeding during surgery.
Limit smoking to 3-4 cigarettes a day, 3 days before surgery.
The operator should be informed of the history of infection if it occurred within 2 weeks before the planned surgery.
Stay 6 hours fasting (without eating or drinking) before surgery.
Course of operation
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia. The duration is from 10 to 20 minutes. The removal of the hymen is done by cutting and removing fragments or the entire membrane found on the vaginal wall. Absorbable sutures are used for the procedure.
After surgery and hospitalization for several hours, the patient is discharged home. A control visit to the Clinic should take place after approx. 7 days. Complete sexual activity occurs after about 4 weeks.
Meticulous compliance with postoperative recommendations is crucial for rapid recovery and significantly affects the final result.
