Conization of cervix

Conization is a diagnostic or diagnostic-therapeutic method of excision of a tissue cone from the vaginal part of the cervix.

The indication for the conization is an abnormal cytological result, an abnormal histological image of a previously harvested biopsy of the vaginal part of the cervix or an incorrect colposcopy result. If the precancerous condition or the early form of cervical cancer is suspected, curettage of the cervical canal and the uterine cavity is additionally performed. The procedure is performed in a short, intravenous general anesthesia, and its duration is about 10 minutes.

Postoperative period

After the surgery and several hours of hospitalization, the patient is discharged home. The control visit at the Clinic should take place after approx. 7 days. The patient may experience persistent pain after the treatment, which is alleviated both by over-the-counter painkillers and ketonal. The result of the histopathological examination is available after 10-14 days after the surgery

Meticulous adherence to postoperative recommendations is crucial in rapid recovery and significantly affects the final result of the operation.
