Conization is a diagnostic or diagnostic-therapeutic method of excision of a tissue cone from the vaginal part of the cervix.
The indication for the conization is an abnormal cytological result, an abnormal histological image of a previously harvested biopsy of the vaginal part of the cervix or an incorrect colposcopy result. If the precancerous condition or the early form of cervical cancer is suspected, curettage of the cervical canal and the uterine cavity is additionally performed. The procedure is performed in a short, intravenous general anesthesia, and its duration is about 10 minutes.
